EROS Adventure CD-ROM Review
Living up to the title, The EROS Adventure - Journey To An Asteroid is just that. It is both a scientific adventure story as well as a pictorial journey
to the asteroid EROS. Mr. H. Court Young has again delivered on what he set out to do -- make an entertaining yet educational CD-ROM encompassing all
aspects of the NEAR mission. Indeed, this CD-ROM, to its credits includes 312 pages of text, 480 images with descriptions by NASA and JPL, 21 movies of rotational sequences (which gives one the perspective of actually being there
), a 15 page photo gallery and 7 pages of Internet links.
The features are indeed impressive. The table of contents guides one through this all encompassing journey. One can quickly, by clicking on a particular
page title, be transported to that site. Also included are thumbnail pictures which can further accelerate a
search. Among the topics included are: The
mission, instrumentation, surface morphology, textured terrain's, impact craters, mineralogical analysis, color images, stereoscopic views, spectral
variations et al. The Internet links are equally researched as well and include such diverse sites as: cosmochemistry, petrology, meteor impact hazards, orbital diagrams, asteroid oppositions, 3-D solar system and even a site where one can produce sky charts.
In summary, this CD-ROM is a must have for anyone interested in asteroids, meteorites, impacts or astronomy in general. EROS Adventure - Journey To An
Asteroid makes an excellent companion to Mr. Young's "Falling From The Sky - A Meteor Resource CD-ROM." One can hardly wait to see what other epic work
Rockhard Software will produce. I, for one, am hooked.
